What To Know About A Glitz Pageant

By Mia Kent

Beauty pageants are becoming more and more popular all across the globe, especially those done for children under the age of 18. In the contests, participants are scored by judges based on their talents and beauty. The contests might be considered natural or glitz. When it comes to a glitz pageant, contestants are encouraged to wear makeup, intricate hairstyles, elaborate costumes and other things that are believed to enhance their overall appearance.

The concept behind these competitions has existed in the United States since around the time of the 1930s. The 1960s saw the onset of the Little Miss America contest, which formed in New Jersey. This competition was originally designed for teenagers, aged between 13 and 17 years. However, in 1964 there was a major increase in the number of participants, approximately 35,000, and the competition organizers decided to implement age divisions.

This type of competition is more common in the modern world. In fact, this industry is extremely lucrative. It is estimated that billions of dollars are made annually and most participants spend thousands of dollars per competition. Most of the money is spent on lessons, clothes and other such services.

Most of the contests cater to females. Still, there is a growing number of boys who are becoming involved too. The age divisions are usually set up as: 0 to 11 months, 1 year to 23 months, 2 to 3, 4 to 6, 7 to 9, 10 to 12, 13 to 15, and 16 to 18. The divisions might also be referred to under special names, such as Little Miss, Petite Miss and Baby Miss.

Competitions are typically a couple hours long, but this time may vary. There are different rules when it comes to being on stage. In some pageants, contestants have less than two minutes on stage, a rule that is enforce even during the talent portion of an event. People who are involved in this should know all the rules and regulations that are specific to a contest so that they are not disqualified or docked points. Parents of babies and young children are allowed on stage with their kid.

Anything goes for most glitz pageants. The routines rehearsed by contestants are often very elaborate. Usually these include sassy facial expressions and dance moves. Fake nails, spray tans, fake teeth, flawless makeup and intricate hairstyles are also commonly seen in these competitions. This is in stark contrast to what is typical of most natural competitions.

When it comes to natural-style contests, the focus is on natural beauty. Because of this, there are usually very strict rules when it comes to use of hair extensions, makeup and elaborate costumes. Typically makeup is not allowed or at most, non-shiny lip-gloss or little mascara can be used. While the glitz is considered a kind of professional-amateur modeling, natural competitions are more like Miss America competitions.

Rules, criteria and guidelines employed for this kind of pageantry will vary. A glitz pageant is known for its glamorous and showy nature. Those who participate in these styles usually go all out when it comes to hair, makeup, nails, tans, routines and costumes. The titles and prizes that are awarded during these competitions will also vary. Participants should be fully aware of the regulations and rules.
